RENOVATOR’S SCORE CARD
Professionalism (Score: 8.0 – Superior)
Hausmark Inspector Experience:
Do not judge a book by its cover, and in our context, not by age. When Hausmark Inspectors walked into Forefront Interior, we were greeted warmly by an admin staff and assigned to a young-looking designer. Riding on our own stereotyping, we assumed the designer was a fresh graduate who would follow everything strictly by the book but we were wrong.
Despite the designer’s youthful appearance, the designer demonstrated depth of experience, strong material knowledge, and clear awareness of renovation considerations. Requirement-gathering began immediately, a non-negotiable step for any competent renovator, and this designer had done it with a systematic, well-designed line of questioning. The designer sought to understand our proposed lifestyle in detail, right down to kitchen appliances (air fryer, toaster, microwave), lifestyle devices (like coffee machine), bed size, TV size, and even the type and number of pets at home.
This level of granularity is essential before any layout or design is proposed as a home is renovated for live-in suitability, not just for showcase value, a principle Hausmark Inspectors consistently uphold.
Fun Tips:
Your kitchen appliances are actually the “first designers” of your kitchen. Most homeowners think they can buy appliances after renovation, but in reality, appliances dictate critical dimensions, electrical planning, ventilation, and even carpentry structure. If you choose them too late, your designer ends up designing blind.
Customer Engagement (Score: 7.0 – Strong Performer)
Hausmark Inspector Experience:
Systematic requirement-gathering by this renovator gave Hausmark Inspectors strong confidence from the outset. Their approach is notably unique and often seen as “extra work” by many others. What they have done is that, instead of presenting a single proposed layout, they provided two distinct proposals to solicit customer preferences first. The quotation is only prepared after the homeowner has selected a preference and provided additional requirements. During the walkthrough, both proposals were clearly articulated in terms of purpose for each fixture, accompanied by the underlying design concepts, and supported by a systematic breakdown of pros and cons to help customers understand the trade-offs of each.
This sequence ensures that the quotation is reasonably accurate, thereby reducing unnecessary variation orders. Hausmark feels that this approach will avoid the situation of overspending due to incremental add-ons.
Overall, we felt that our engagement with this renovator was pleasant, professional, and consistent with a team that keeps its promises. We were particularly impressed that the quotation and proposals were delivered on the day as committed, which is a clear reflection of the renovator’s attitude and respect towards customers.
Fun Fact:
If a renovator cannot keep a simple promise to get back to you, or requires constant reminders just to follow through, that’s already a red flag. Reliability at the enquiry stage is the easiest test. If it fails here, it often signals deeper issues ahead: slow responses, missed deadlines, and avoidable project friction once the job starts.
Project & Site Management (Score: 8.7 – Elite)
Hausmark Inspector Experience:
We requested to view an ongoing renovation with completed carpentry works to assess workmanship at its final installation stage. The site we visited was spick and span, reflecting disciplined housekeeping and a project team that clearly understands the importance of safety, workflow organisation, and maintaining a controlled environment during active renovation.
On-site, we also noted that carpentry quality stood out. The team demonstrated strong design intent and execution, with several carpentry marvels purpose-built to conceal storage and minimise visual clutter. Hausmark Inspectors felt that the effort invested in engineering these mechanisms was clearly evident, reflecting a design philosophy that supports both aesthetics and daily practicality.
In terms of site management, we learned that Forefront adopts a tag-team model supported by an additional project manager who conducts regular site visits to guide workers, monitor workmanship, and ensure smooth progress. For seamless coordination, Forefront utilises an app that syncs between the project manager and designer. Within this app, a detailed design sheet outlines all job progress, site conditions, confirmed job schedules, and material selections, ensuring clarity and alignment before execution begins. The project manager, being on site more frequently, acts as the designer’s additional eyes on the ground, flagging issues promptly and responding in the group chat with homeowners whenever the designer is unavailable. Currently, this app is available only to Forefront’s internal team. From Hausmark’s perspective, extending access to homeowners in the future would be a valuable enhancement, allowing them to monitor renovation progress in real time. For now, the two-man tag-team model remains more than sufficient. After all, the role of an interior designer is to reduce the need for homeowners to micromanage their renovation, and this workflow reflects that spirit well
Fun Fact:
Engaging an ID doesn’t mean homeowners should disappear from the site entirely. IDs and project managers handle the heavy lifting, but occasional homeowner visits help align expectations and catch small details early; it’s teamwork, not total handover.
Design Standards (Score: 8.6 – Elite)
Hausmark Inspector Experience:
To Hausmark, design standards are not defined by aesthetics alone. A high-quality design must also be functional, live-in friendly, and aligned with the homeowner’s lifestyle. Forefront demonstrated this clearly, which is why Inspectors awarded them a high score for design standards.
We assigned the renovator two difficult design tasks. The first was to conceal a kitchen positioned right at the entrance, a challenging request that many renovators struggled with. Forefront addressed this convincingly across both proposed layouts, each offering a different strategy to visually remove the kitchen from immediate sight while maintaining usability.
The second task was to “create” space in both the living room and the adjacent bedroom, sharing the same wall. Our expectation was a visual solution, perhaps carpentry or lighting to create the illusion of space. Instead, the renovator proposed an idea that genuinely surprised us. They suggested removing the shared wall and replacing it with carpentry, effectively reclaiming approximately 20 t0 30 cm of actual usable space. This was a bold, unconventional, and highly creative solution, one we had not heard from any other renovator we met.
This level of design thinking reflects a renovator who does not merely decorate but reconfigures space intelligently to improve liveability.

The renovator demonstrates a solid understanding of sustainability standards and has meaningfully incorporated environmental compliance into their work. All carpentry is produced using low-formaldehyde eco wood.
Showroom Quality & Craft (Score: 8.0 – Superior)
Hausmark Inspector Highlights:
Tucked inside an industrial building, this is a showroom we would recommend visiting by appointment. Forefront operates two showrooms on the same floor: an older Victorian-fusion space that functions mainly as a discussion office, and a newly renovated double-storey showroom further down the corridor.
As we approached the second showroom, we were greeted by a striking entrance lined with warm, orangey-red subway tiles, setting the tone for a space that feels both modern and inviting. Inside, the design is clean and thoughtfully lit, with warm spotlights creating a cosy, hotel-like ambience. The layout includes a full mock-up living room, kitchen, and study area, which provides homeowners a realistic sense of scale and how different materials come together in an actual home setting.
Material expression is a strong point here. The use of breeze blocks, textured surfaces, and earthy pebble-look flooring adds depth and tactile warmth. Complementing this is a ready assortment of laminate and tabletop samples, neatly organised for homeowners to compare colours, textures, and finishes during discussions.
In our opinion, the space felt intentionally curated: simple yet expressive, bold yet balanced, and ultimately a conducive environment for homeowners to explore ideas with clarity, comfort, and a strong sense of design direction.
Fair Pricing & Terms (Score: 8.0 – Superior)
HAUSMARK Inspector Highlights:
As a CASETrust-registered company, their after-sales warranty and payment terms are well documented, giving homeowners confidence in the process. The payment schedule was broken down into 5 stages, beginning with a 10% deposit and ending with a 5% retention, in line with CASETrust recommendations. This is beneficial to homeowners as it reduces financial strain, aligns payments more closely with actual progress, and provides clearer checkpoints before releasing each tranche.
The quotation provided detailed, itemised quotations that clearly explain how each cost is calculated, with no hidden charges, making it easy for homeowners to understand the breakdown. Our assessment of the quotation was reasonable, falling within the mid to higher tier range, with consideration given to the use of higher-quality mechanisms and wood materials.
The contract T&C was standard and considered fair. There were no clauses requiring further scrutiny.
Fun Fact:
Breaking payment milestones into more trenches is useful because it gives homeowners clearer control over their renovation progress: smaller payouts reduce financial risk, each stage is checked more closely before money moves, and the payment schedule aligns more accurately with real on-site work, creating a fairer, more transparent renovation journey for both parties.
Post-Project Support (Score: 8.5 – Elite)

Online Presence (Score: 8.0 – Superior)
Hausmark Inspector Highlights:
Forefront has a strong social media presence and a solid base of public reviews, with the majority reflecting high customer satisfaction and consistent praise for their service. While there were isolated comments about designer unavailability or slow responses, we also observed sincere and proactive replies from the renovator, assuring homeowners that corrective actions would be taken. This demonstrated accountability and a willingness to address concerns rather than dismiss them. To validate responsiveness, Hausmark Inspectors contacted the team on a public holiday, a period when most renovation firms are closed, and the designer replied within a minute, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to timely communication.
Fun Fact:
Take unverified reviews with a pinch of salt. No harm referring to them but always refer to HAUSMARK as your baseline reference and more importantly to perform your own due diligence by visiting and speaking to the renovators before you commit on one.
