RENOVATOR’S SCORE CARD
Professionalism (Score: 8.0 – Superior)
Hausmark Inspector Experience:
From the outset, the designer from Space Atelier demonstrated consciousness, respect, and customer-centric discipline. He was punctual, proactive in updating his location, and ensured we always knew what to expect, the kind of operational commitment Hausmark inspectors expect to see carried through the entire renovation journey.
Our first engagement immediately revealed a designer who is experienced, knowledgeable, and technically competent. He spoke with conviction and clarity, showing strong contextual awareness. Requirement-gathering was not a routine checklist; instead, it became an interactive visualisation exercise, where he used showroom setups to help us understand furniture placement, walkway allowances, and spatial flow. This ability to translate ideas into mental imagery, in real time, showcased both creativity and communication mastery.
What stood out further was his integration of real lived-in conditions into the design conversation. He did not design for aesthetics alone; he designed for life. This aligns with our belief that a well-designed home must be both beautiful and deeply comfortable. Space Atelier’s proposal reflected this philosophy, and the designer’s ability to help homeowners visualise the space was superb — empowering us to contribute meaningfully and customise according to our daily routines.
Throughout the engagement, the renovator remained down-to-earth and professional. There was no overselling, no push toward unnecessary upgrades, and no attempt to impose concepts we did not ask for. Follow-ups were timely yet respectful, giving homeowners adequate space to consider.
For homeowners who value feng shui alignment, this renovator may, depending on the assigned designer, offer practical feng shui-informed tips on furniture placement and key installations. It’s a thoughtful value-add service that complements the design process without overclaiming expertise.
Overall, the experience exceeded expectations. The renovator displayed the confidence of an experienced professional with strong knowledge of materials, installations, and practical design considerations.
Customer Engagement (Score: 7.0 – Strong Performer)
Hausmark Inspector Experience:
The atmosphere at Space Atelier is warm and comfortable, and our Hausmark inspectors left the showroom with a clear sense of confidence, the feeling that this renovator knows exactly what he is doing, understands limitations, and is fully aware of the pitfalls homeowners should avoid. Communication is sincere, and explanations are detailed, especially when clarifying why certain installations or structural supports are necessary. These behind-the-scenes considerations are often glossed over by many IDs, but at Space Atelier, this level of transparency stood out as exceptional.
Throughout our engagement, every proposal was clearly articulated: the purpose of each fixture, the underlying design concept, and a systematic breakdown of pros and cons to help homeowners understand trade-offs. There were several instances where the designer highlighted areas that were not necessary to spend on, reinforcing our impression that this renovator is honest, genuine, and committed to homeowner interests.
In the proposed layout and design, it was evident that the designer had listened closely to our requirements; the alignment between our inputs and his proposal was unmistakable. Homeowners should also set aside additional time, as the designer often brainstorms on the spot, sketching ideas and refining concepts during the meeting. This is a positive sign of commitment and ensures that homeowner inputs are captured in real time.
To Hausmark, a home is renovated for the homeowner, and the starting point of any design must stem from the owner’s lifestyle, needs, and lived-in realities. Space Atelier demonstrated this principle clearly, and they succeeded in capturing our requirements with precision
Project & Site Management (Score: 7.5 – Superior)
Hausmark Inspector Experience:
Space Atelier brought us to a home that was mid-renovation, and the moment we stepped onto the site, the environment projected confidence and control. The space was neat despite active work, reflecting disciplined housekeeping, strong safety awareness, and a team that clearly takes workflow organisation seriously. It was the kind of site where you immediately sense that processes are not just in place, they are actively upheld.
They also explained their operational structure, where site management and design roles are intentionally segregated. The site manager focuses solely on on-ground operations, while the designer concentrates on design development and homeowner engagement. This ensures availability, proper backup, and a smoother flow of information. Our Hausmark inspectors have observed this model among other high-performing IDs, and Space Atelier’s execution of it felt deliberate and well-coordinated.
On project management, they walked us through a structured, transparent workflow anchored by a master schedule shared with homeowners. Milestone-based site checks are conducted, during which the designer briefs subcontractors directly to align expectations and avoid misinterpretation. This is complemented by timely WhatsApp updates that keep homeowners informed, reduce uncertainty, and reinforce a sense of steady, reliable progress from start to finish.
Overall, the visit showcased a renovator that manages its sites with discipline, separates roles with intention, and communicates with clarity, a combination that gives homeowners confidence that their renovation is being handled with professionalism and care.
Design Standards (Score: 7.8 – Superior)
Hausmark Inspector Experience:
Space atelier is one of the few renovator that put in additional efforts to draft a 3D rendering even prior to us awarding the renovation job. This demonstrated a sense of commitment to service customers and making sure that the proposal was crystal clear for decision making. Before our 2nd meeting which was the time where proposed layout and design are explained, the designer humbly apologise that he is not a professional drafter but doing his best to present a 3D rendering. Honestly, the 3D rendering was very well drafted and more than adequately served its purpose of pu
In their proposal, there was clear consideration of kitchen workflow, space planning, and appliance integration. The designer had evidently done her homework; she understood the kitchen layout down to the inch and could confidently state where each appliance, washing machine, dryer, and others would fit. We also observed strong capability in maximising small spaces and using nooks and crevices to minimise dead zones, a crucial skill in Singapore’s space-constrained BTO/HDB context.
The proposal exceeded our expectations, with thoughtful touches such as dead-space utilisation and lighting strategies to enhance liveability. The only minor observation, from our inspector who personally prefers bolder concepts, was that the design could have been more adventurous. This was not a shortcoming. Given the designer’s capability, we are confident the designer would have proposed a bolder direction had it been explicitly requested. To be fair, the layout we have provided was space-constrained, naturally limiting the degree of design exploration possible. To Hausmark Inspectors, we felt that this level of design thinking reflects a renovator who does not merely decorate but reconfigures space intelligently to improve liveability, a hallmark of strong design standards and experience quality.

Showroom Quality & Craft (Score: 7.0 – Strong Performer)
Hausmark Inspector Highlights:
Located in an old industrial building near Tai Seng MRT, Space Atelier’s showroom is fairly accessible despite its unglamorous surroundings. Walk-ins are not always possible; our first visit found no designers present, and although the admin staff took our particulars, no follow-up came. Still, driven by consistently strong online reviews, our inspectors persisted and the eventual appointment proved worthwhile.
Upon arrival, the contrast was immediate. The industrial corridors and dated lift lobby gave way to a prominent Space Atelier logo, a clean visual break that signalled a different world behind the door.
Inside, the first thing that caught our eye was the display wall of Pop Mart figurines and Bear bricks, a playful, curated touch that injected personality into the space. The showroom itself is not large, but it is intelligently compartmentalised into a living area, kitchen, bedroom, and dining zone. Every corner is purposeful.
Relative to newer ID showrooms we’ve visited, this one is functional rather than flashy. Some areas could benefit from a refresh to bring the space up to date, but its strength lies in practicality:
- ample material samples
- clear mock-ups
- well-organised displays
- a layout that supports meaningful discussion
During the walkthrough, the designer guided us through each installation with clarity, highlighting practical considerations, build logic, and material behaviour. The combination of physical mock-ups and 3D renderings gave us a strong, confident visualisation of what homeowners can expect.
Overall, despite the modest setting and initial hiccups, this revisit turned out to be worth the effort. Space Atelier’s showroom remains functional, well-equipped, and capable of delivering clear design understanding, a grounded, purposeful space that supports informed decision-making.
Fair Pricing & Terms (Score: 7.6 – Superior)
HAUSMARK Inspector Highlights:
Space Atelier’s contract T&C was one of the most comprehensive and clearly structured we have reviewed, with clear documentation of scope, processes, materials, standards of work, and a transparent payment breakdown. As a CASETrust-registered firm, their after-sales warranty and payment terms were well defined, and the five-stage payment schedule, from a 10% deposit to a 5% retention, aligns fully with CASETrust recommendations, reinforcing contract transparency.
On the refundable-deposit clause, refunds are allowed within seven days, minus completed works, excluding paid items such as 3D drawings or consultancy fees. While this is generally fair, homeowners should still clarify the details and consider requesting itemisation rather than a single lump sum. Overall, the contract was standard, fair, and required no further scrutiny.
The quotation was detailed and itemised, with clear cost explanations and no hidden charges, making it easy for homeowners to understand the breakdown.
We also noted the inclusion of electrical works, uncommon in many ID quotations, which allows customers to compare costs if engaging external electricians. Pricing sat within the mid-tier range, justified by the use of higher-quality mechanisms and wood materials.

Online Presence (Score: 8.0 – Superior)
Hausmark Inspector Highlights:
Space Atelier experienced some choppy service delivery in its earlier years, but has shown clear improvement over time. Today, it maintains a strong social-media presence and a solid base of public reviews, with the majority reflecting high customer satisfaction and consistent praise for their service. While there were a handful of isolated comments about cancellations, deposits, or workmanship issues, our checks confirmed that these cases were eventually resolved, even if not as smoothly as the homeowners had hoped. These remarks remain limited compared to the overall volume of positive feedback, supporting Space Atelier’s standing as a dependable renovator with a well-established reputation. We also noted from their media responses that they are generally responsive and genuine in addressing customer concerns.
Fun Fact:
A renovator’s response to complaints is often more revealing than the compliments they receive. Homeowners look closely at how firms handle difficult moments, and a clear, timely, and respectful reply signals accountability and service discipline, qualities that matter deeply in renovation work. When an ID addresses concerns openly and constructively, it reassures future customers that issues won’t be ignored and that the firm stands behind its work. This is why consistent, thoughtful engagement with complaints, not just praise, plays a meaningful role in maintaining public confidence and industry credibility.
